Manrique Was Right: Local Secrets, Honest Stories & the Real Lanzarote
There's a reason Lanzarote doesn't look like anywhere else in the Canaries.
One man argued, for decades, that the island should never be allowed to turn into a wall of concrete. No high-rise hotels. No roadside billboards. People thought he was difficult. He turned out to be right, and the island you land on today is the result of an argument he won.
Most visitors never hear that. They get a transfer, a strip and a fortnight, and go home having had a lovely time without ever really meeting the place.
This is the version you get if you live here.
Who this is for
- People who come back to Lanzarote every year and suspect they're still only seeing a slice of it
- Winter long-stayers who want the island in January, not just the brochure in August
- Anyone thinking seriously about moving, who wants the honest version and not the dream
- First-timers who'd rather not waste three of their seven days
What you get
- A full-length illustrated guide, written as a story rather than a list
- The wind rules that decide whether El Golfo, Los Hervideros and Famara are worth the drive that morning
- Timanfaya done properly, including the timing and the bit almost everyone misses
- La Graciosa, the ferry, the daily cap, and how to get a real day there
- Market timings that actually matter, not opening hours copied off a website
- An honest chapter on living here: rent, work, and the holiday-let squeeze
- Free updates for life

From Chapter Four
The lava came down towards Tinajo and the people carried the Virgin out to meet it and set her down in its path, and the lava stopped. You can go and look. The edge of the flow is right there behind the church, a wall of black rubble that simply ends, and the fields on the other side of it are still being worked.

What this isn't
It's not a listings guide. No opening hours to go stale, no sponsored restaurants, and no pretending the island has no problems. Housing here is hard and getting harder, and the book says so.

Instant download. Read it on a phone, a tablet or printed out. If it's not what you hoped for, email us and we'll refund you, no argument.
